CAPTIVATING & MOVING, AMAZING CAST, BEAUFITUL SETS AND COSTUMES

Watched the show last night - what an amazing performance!!! The cast is incredible, so vocally gifted, and each actor gives great life to their role (keep an eye out for Papa Ge). The story is very moving, and the performers convey the emotion effectively. The Costuming, lighting & staging are very creative and visually appealing. The set is incredibly imaginative, but be aware that if you're sitting in the first two rows, you may get a little "sand" on you. The show also touches on the issues of classism as well as shadism/colourism, which are still important issues today. ---------------------------- To the reviewer asking for a refund: It's not the fault of the company if you didn't like the story. Do you ask for a refund at the movies each time you don't like the plot? Both the synopsis and soundtrack of this musical are readily available. Caveat emptor.

COURTNEE CARTER IS A SIREN

Just experienced the musical at TPAC last night. Absolutely wonderful... I enjoyed the setting and the delightful talented cast. The songs and dancing echos throughout the African diaspora. Courtnee Carter is beautiful, sings like an angel and dances with the passion of her ancestors.

SOMETHINGS MISSING- BUT IT’S NOT TALENT

Take away the intimate/ interactive feel of Broadway and you still have a great performance. The cast was super talented and they pulled it off very well without Alex Newell or Merle Dandridge. But somehow the storyline lacks content. However, we love a musical for the singing and dancing, and with that you will not be disappointed! And the production brought the story to life. You really felt like they were in a Hotel Ballroom with sand still on the stage! Excellent!

THOUGH THE CAST WAS CREATIVE AND SANG SUPER WELL..

Took my mother who felt the same way. The storyline was unoriginal and unremarkable for us. It was basically an island/carribean version of the original tale of the little mermaid by the Danish poet, not the Disney version. With the exception that the main girl laid with the boy and tried to kill the boy after the betrayal to trade back her own life with the gods. She fails. Gets kicked out of the rich house. Became delusional and wondered outside of the house gate for weeks calling out to the boy claiming that he will die if she's not with him. Which is untrue. After boy marries and says goodbye, she dies. The gods then honor her devotion and "love" by changing her into big beautiful tree in the garden of the rich house for many generations. The island continue to song praises of this love story.
